CONFERENCE SPEAKERS

Rehearse, React, Recover...The Parkersburg Tornado Story

On May 25, 2008 a violent EF5 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 205 mph swept through Parkersburg , IA leaving a path of destruction 43 miles wide, killing 7 people and injuring 67. This was the second deadliest tornado in Iowa since official record keeping began.

In this presentation, we will see the disaster and the stress it caused through the eyes of three responders: Chris Luhring, Police Chief; Todd Wildeboer, Ambulance Crew Chief; Tammy Fleshner, EMT-I; Jane Morgan, CISM-Iowa; will give us some insight into the role played by CISM in this event and the challenges they faced.

Nebraska CISM Refresher Training - Jack Wineman, Lead Trainer
(Assisting Trainers are: Jan Fitts, Jon Kayne, and Theresa Wadkins)

After learning the CISM techniques, it is important to get the experience in using and maintaining the skills necessary to do quality interventions.

This program has been designed to provide participants with direct application and practice of skills of crisis intervention techniques. The program emphasizes a broadening of the knowledge base concerning critical incident stress management interventions as well as the practice of each application. Participants will learn some training techniques and activities that they might use to assist their teams in additional skill building.
