James Peschong

Jim Peschong has been a member of the Police Officer's Association of Nebraska for the past 34+ years and a member of the Board of Directors since 1998. Jim retired as Chief of Police for the Lincoln Police Department in 2016.

Jim joined the Lincoln Police Department in January 1975 after serving in the U.S. Army. He started his career walking a beat in the downtown area. He then transited to riding a police motor and handled traffic duties. He worked his way through a variety of assignments and positions in the department as a cruiser officer, a detective, served as a Lieutenant and a Captain in the Criminal Investigations Unit as well as a Team Captain on the Southwest and the Northwest/Center Teams before being promoted to Assistant Chief.

Jim is very active both inside and outside of the Lincoln Police Department. He served more than ten years as a member of the Norris School Board of Education. He currently serves on the Norris Educational Foundation Board, AFIS Advisory Board, Project Safe Neighborhoods State Board of Directors, People's Choice Credit Union Board of Directors as well as several community committees and Boards. He also is currently serving on a task force for the IACP and Department of Homeland Security on information sharing and First Responder Technologies. Jim is a past board member of Day Watch, Lincoln Council of Alcoholism and Drugs, Attention Center for Youth, and Foot Printers. He is a graduate of the FBINA Academy , session #196 as well as a LEEDS graduate. He is also an active member of International Association of Chiefs of Police and Police Chiefs Association of Nebraska.
