I graduated from Kearney State College in December 1976, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. At the time of my graduation I also received a commission as a 2 nd Lieutenant in the US Army. I served 9 years in the Nebraska National Guard, stationed in Holdrege and Kearney . July 3, 1978 I was hired by the Kearney Police Department as a Patrol officer. I graduated from the NLETC Police Officer Basic Course in December 1978. I was promoted to Detective in 1982 and served in that position for 6 years. In January 1988, I was promoted to sergeant. I graduated from the Traffic Institute School of Police Staff and Command, and 10 week course, in December 1988. I was a sergeant for 13 years, serving in the roles of a Patrol Sergeant, Investigative Sergeant and Staff Services Sergeant. In May 2001, I was promoted to Police Captain and have served as Operations Captain and as Services Captain. I am married, my wife is Diane. This year we celebrated 25 years of marriage. We have two children, Sara, a sophomore at UNL and Joe, and 8th grader. We also have two dogs, Maddie, an Australian Shepherd mix and Fritz, a white miniature schnauzer. -Captain Don Dreyer
