POLICE OFFICER'S ASSOCIATION OF NEBRASKA

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING

HOLIDAY INN CONVENTION CENTER

KEARNEY , NEBRASKA

OCTOBER 30, 2007

MEMBERS PRESENT: 47

President Carmichael called the meeting to order at 1200 hours.

 

MINUTES: Minutes from the September 26, 2006 meeting were presented. Dennis Wagner, Central City PD, made a motion to approve the minutes. Jim Agler, North Platte PD, provided a second. Motion was approved by voice vote.

 

TREASURER'S REPORT: Treasurer's report was presented. Jim Agler, North Platte PD, made a motion to accept the report. Jim Peschong, Lincoln PD, provided a second. Motion was approved by voice vote.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

1. Law Enforcement Memorial: Bill Larsen reported that a contract was expected to be signed next week. This would enable the ground work to begin with memorial construction to begin as weather permits.

2. Retirement Bill: Kim Christensen and Andy Backman reported that the actuarial study has started and is scheduled to be completed by the first week in December. The Legislature has tentatively scheduled a hearing on the bill/s for the middle of December.

3. Website: Bill Larsen inquired whether anyone has had any issues, or comments, regarding the website. One comment was made regarding the membership application.

4. Midwest Response: Jim Peschong reported that the fundraising is continuing as specified in the contract. He also reported that Xentel has taken over the contract from Midwest Response.

5. Vendors: President Carmichael reported that the Conference Committee contracted with Melanie Bailey to handle vendors for the Conference. She was able to contract with approximately 63 vendors this year, which is approximately double the vendors from last year. Comments from membership were very positive regarding the vendors in attendance.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

1. 2008 Annual Conference: First Vice-President Bottorff reported that next year's conference will again be at the Kearney Holiday Inn and the dates will be October 12-15, 2008 .

2. Elections: the following will be the results from the election of Officers and Board Members:

A. Second Vice-President:

Nominations:

Jim Peschong, Lincoln PD.

Ed Burmood, Hastings PD.

Jim Agler, North Platte PD, made a motion to close the nominations. Andy Backman, South Sioux City PD, provided a second. Motion was approved by voice vote.

Elected: Jim Peschong, Lincoln PD.

B. Secretary/Treasurer:

Nominations:

Bill Larsen, Lincoln PD

Jim Agler, North Platte PD, made a motion to close the

Nominations and approve Bill Larsen by acclimation. Kurt Bottorff, Fremont PD, provided

A second. Motion was approved by voice vote.

C. Board of Directors; There will be two three year terms and one term for one year, which would complete Jim Peschong's term

Jeff Elliot, Fremont PD

Jim Agler, North Platte PD, made a motion to close the

Nominations. Andrea Towler, Hastings PD, provided a second. Motion was approved by voice vote.

 

Results:

Three Year Terms:

Andy Backman, South Sioux City PD.

Kim Christensen, York PD.

One Year Term:

Jeff Elliot, Fremont PD

Jim Agler, North Platte PD, made a motion to destroy the ballots. Andy Backman, South Sioux City PD, provided a second. Motion was approved by voice vote.

Jim Agler, North Platte PD, made a motion to move the First Vice-President to President and the Second Vice-President to First Vice-President. Bruce Felty, Holdrege PD, provided a second. Motion was approved by voice vote.

3. Scholarships: the following are the results of the scholarship drawings:

Greg Koinzen, South Sioux City PD.

Steve Lamken, Grand Island PD.

Rich Haase, Wayne PD.

Robert Burnett, Plattsmouth PD.

Larry Kinne, McCook PD.

President Carmichael asked for any other business, or anything for the good of the order. Nothing was presented.

Jim Agler, North Platte PD, made a motion to adjourn. Bruce Felty, Holdrege PD, provided a second. Motion was approved by voice vote.

Meeting was adjourned at 1315 hours.
